What file do I need?

Any of these will work:

  • bookmarks.html — what you get from Bookmarks → Export in any browser. This is the one to use.
  • Bookmarks — the extension-less JSON file inside a Chrome, Edge or Brave profile folder.
  • favorites.html or any old export you have lying around, including Internet Explorer's.

One habit worth forming: export a fresh bookmarks.html before you run any cleanup tool — here or anywhere else — and keep the original. Every tool on this site writes a new file and never touches your browser, but a spare copy costs nothing.
